How to Tie a Double Grinner Knot

Use a double grinner knot primarily for joining two monofilament lines of approximately equal diameter. It is at least three fourths as strong as the line, making it stronger than a blood knot, but weaker than a double Centauri knot.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Bring two parallel lines together so that they overlap by about 6 inches. The line on the left will be line A and the line on the left will be line B.

  2. Step 2

Form a loop with line A, being sure to allow enough line to complete a grinner knot. Wrap the working end of line A around the loop of line A just made and line B, starting from the standing end and working out toward the end of the loop.

  3. Step 3

Base the number of wraps on the size of the line where smaller lines require more wraps. The average monofilament line will typically require about four complete turns.

  4. Step 4

Pass the working end of line A through the loop of line A from below. Dress the knot by ensuring the wraps do not overlap and lie snugly next to each other. Tighten this half of the double grinner knot by pulling on both ends of line A.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Steps 2 through 4 with line B and pull both halves of the double grinner together using steady even pressure on the standing ends of the two lines. Trim the working ends of both knots close to the knots for a neat appearance.
