RPG Toolkit is an extremely useful and versatile tool for computer role-playing game designers. Even people who aren't game designers can create a game with RPG Toolkit with relative ease, as long as they have some programming knowledge.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Learn some of the basic terminology involved in RPG Toolkit. In particular, you should understand each of the basic file types, including Boards, Tiles, Players, Enemies, Items, Animations and Programs.
Step2
Download RPG Toolkit from the RPG Toolkit at the SourceForge website, and install RPG toolkit.
Step3
Launch RPG Toolkit. Select "File" and then "New Project." Give your game a name, and select a location to store the files. Check the box that says, "Copy the default files into game." This creates the files necessary for your game.
Step4
Click the "New Board" button, which is the second button from the top on the toolbar. This allows you to create the background for the scene using either the default tiles included in RPG Toolkit or GIF files you provide.
Step5
Add the particular elements you want from the basic filetypes.
Step6
Include optional plug-ins to enhance your scene.
Step7
Repeat Steps 4 to 6 for each scene you wish to create.
Step8
Save your project. To test your game, run it either within RPG Toolkit or as a stand alone game.
