Like knitting and crocheting, macrame has experienced a revival in the midst of the popularity of textile arts. Macrame is a craft using leather, cotton twine and other materials to make woven designs through a series of knots. There are also a variety of macrame machines available to get the look you want. You can embellish just about anything with macrame designs, even a pair of macrame jean shorts.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit your local craft shop or visit a craft shop online to find a machine to help you macrame a pair of jean shorts. Some machines can be quite costly and prices will vary, so it's a good idea to shop around for the best deal.

  2. Step 2

Sketch a detailed design of how you want your design to look when you macrame a pair of jean shorts. Your sketch will serve as a blueprint for the actual design.

  3. Step 3

Read the instructions of your macrame machine completely before using it. Make sure you have all the supplies you need to macrame jean shorts before you begin.

  4. Step 4

Add your macrame design to your jeans by creating custom designs on your own by hand. Macrame a special trim design to sew along the edges of your jean shorts, or be bold by taking strips of actual blue jean material, knotting it by hand to create a pair of macrame jean shorts that are one of a kind. Enjoy your new look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice your macrame design with hemp because it's sturdy and easy to unknot.
  • Coat the hanging cords of your macrame design with clear nail polish if the fiber tends to fray.
  • You can make many macrame designs by using a special board resembling a push pin board.
