But although polished concrete floors are durable, they do require some cleaning to keep up their shine. With a little ongoing maintenance, your floors can last a lifetime.

Damp cloth
Dust mop or micro fiber mop
Wet mop
Water and mild cleaner
High speed buffer and white pad
Sealer

Step1

Use a damp cloth to wipe up spills as soon as possible. Don't let spaghetti sauce leave a permanent stain.

Step2

Dust mop every few days to keep your floors clean. When concrete floors get dusty, they also become slippery. Avoid an accident by staying ahead of the dust bunnies. You can also dry mop with a microfiber mop.

Step3

Mop with water on a weekly basis. If you dust mop and wet mop regularly, you may not need to use any cleaner other than water. If more elbow grease is called for, add a mild, neutral cleaner recommended by your contractor. Do not use ammonia or vinegar, because they can damage the finish. Some cleaners made especially for decorative concrete leave behind a dirt-resistant film.

Step4

Buff your floors occasionally with a high speed buffer and a white pad. You can get one at a rental store.

Step5

Reseal the floors every few years, if they start looking dull. You can do this yourself with a mop or bring in a flooring contractor for a quick and easy boost to your floors.
