If you have a colored bridle that has darkened or discolored over time, you can clean off excess dirt with a few cleaning supplies and a touch of elbow grease. While it may take a few tries to perform the steps seamlessly, you'll be pleased with a cleaner, more sanitary plastic bridle that lasts much longer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

  1. Step 1

Dismantle the bridle as much as possible to allow for thorough cleaning, placing the bit aside.

Prepare a bucket of hot water for cleaning the bit separately. Allow it to soak as you move to the next step.

  3. Step 3

Fill another bucket with warm water and add 1 to 2 tbsps. of mild detergent to clean the rest of the bridle.

Begin washing your bridle with the soapy water and your bristle brush, paying close attention to the crevices and hard-to-reach areas.

Use a toothbrush and toothpaste to scrub the bit, after soaking.

  6. Step 6

Rinse your bridle and bit with cool water.

  7. Step 7

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have invested in a quality browband, remove it before washing to protect it.
  • Remember that the more often you clean your plastic bridle, the less thorough you must be each time.
  • Consider taking a photo or drawing a photo of your bridle before you dismantle it, as it can be challenging to reassemble.
