Organic is the term used to describe products that contain ingredients that are grown and processed without the use of synthetic fertilizers, fungicides or pesticides. Organic farming also prohibits the use of genetically modified organisms, pesticides, chemicals, irradiation or artificial preservatives. There are other food-related businesses that can be considered organic, including bakeries. You can start an organic bakery if you know what qualifies as "organic" in baking.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Create a business plan for the organic bakery. Key components would be deciding how to run the bakery, needed equipment, and deciding lines of products to sell, such as coffee or other drinks. Another thing to think about would be how to serve the product to the customer, either utilizing self-service bins, a quick order counter or sit-down set-up with waitresses.
Step2
Determine a location for the business and if you will rent, lease or purchase the building. Scope out the area and see what competition is in the near area. An ideal location might be near local office buildings or a college campus. You will also need to decide on how you will financially support your business until you are up and profitable.
Step3
Purchase organic products in order to make the organic items for the bakery. Organic items are typically vegan, gluten-free and wheat-free. Examples would be whole grain wheat flour, alternative sweeteners, gluten-free oats and organic non-hydrogenated oils.
Step4
Package products in earth friendly packaging, such as cellophane packaging that is 100% biodegradable. Packaging products will make the item more portable for the consumer and can also help branch the bakery into catering.
Step5
Advertise your organic bakery at local whole foods markets and other local businesses or even a farmers market in your city. Try adding a sign out front for the sidewalk to showcase specials and attract attention. Many young people are turning to a healthier lifestyle so advertise at local colleges or neighborhood bookstores that might not offer bakery items.
