David Brenner is a pioneer in comedy. He was one of the first comics to use observational comedy that is so prevalent in stand-up comedy today. Another aspect of comedy in which Mr. Brenner excelled and broke new ground with almost every performance is that of political humor. While complex, there is a pattern, which will allow most anyone to tell political jokes like David Brenner with enough practice.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Juxtapose a political figure with an outrageous setting. David Brenner uses the political figure of the day to suppose if they had another job outside of politics like a Vegas showgirl or something equally silly.
Step2
Watch political shows on television and contrast what passes for politics today to inane tabloid headlines. David Brenner has no patience for today's political blather and uses his wit and sarcasm to poke fun at the silliness of it all.
Step3
Read and understand as much as you can about current and historical politics. Mr. Brenner is anything but uninformed because he knows the politics he jokes about. You can't properly lampoon a topic if you do not fully understand the topic.
Step4
Utilize little known political references to add depth to the Joke. Arcane references not only keep the audience guessing, but also makes you appear smart and gains the respect of the audience while telling a political joke.
Step5
Understand that politics influence everyone's lives on a daily basis and use these facts in the construction of the political jokes. If the audience feels the joke in a personal way, it makes it that much more effective.
