Comedian Patton Oswalt is renowned for his irreverence and acerbic wit. One of the frequent targets of his derision is pop culture and all that it entails. Patton Oswalt makes comedic observations and comments that most anyone can, but does so from a skewed perspective.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have disdain for pop culture but then admit that you are a fan. Patton Oswalt makes fun of people who care about pop culture but then freely admits that he watches some of these same shows. This admission will give you pass to make fun of it, because you are in the club.

  2. Step 2

Use icons of pop culture in a displaced comparison. For instance, take a popular character from Star Wars but place him, her or it in a dull office setting or have them selling pornography.

  3. Step 3

Place prominent actors in Hollywood blockbuster movies in which they almost landed the starring role. Patton Oswald does this in his bit about Nick Nolte playing Han Solo in Star Wars or Nicolas Cage who almost landed the role of Superman. Then, exaggerate these actors for comedic affect in a popular scene from these movies.

  4. Step 4

Undertand that despite the fact that people love pop culture they also enjoy tearing it down. Patton Oswalt tears down pop culture because it is for the most part without depth and mean. He understands that people enjoy seeing every iconic item from pop culture brought down to his or her level.
