1
Cut yourself some slack. Nelly Furtado gave herself 2 years to get her body and abs back into pop star form after her daughter Nevis was born. Set realistic goals and have realistic expectations for your body.

2
Find a program that works for you and your schedule. For Nelly Furtado, that program was The Abs Diet, developed by Men's Health Editor-In-Chief David Zinczenko (see Resources). The Abs Diet calls for a circuit-training workout combined with a high-protein, low-carbohydrate eating plan. It's ideal for new moms since you eat frequent mini-meals and work out three to four times a week.

Eat healthfully. Powerhouse foods like almonds, beans, spinach, all-natural peanut butter, whole grains, berries, low-fat dairy products, oatmeal, eggs and lean meats fuel your body, keep your metabolism revved up and help you burn fat. Nelly Furtado keeps her portions small but eats frequently to keep her metabolism going.

Work out three to four times per week. Nelly Furtado's workout routine for her abs consists of performing 10 to 12 repetitions each of five different abdominal exercises with no more than 30 seconds of rest between each exercise. Trainers call this method circuit training.
