Cheerleading routines, although they may appear complex and involved, can be composed of only a few basic moves. The "High V" often is seen in cheers, chants, jumps and dance routines. Follow these steps to master this basic cheerleading maneuver. Make all your moves sharp, tight and crisp. Loose motions with floppy arms or unclenched fists appear unpolished.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Relax your shoulders. Keep your movements tight, but your shoulders loose.

  2. Step 2

Form a fist. Rest your thumb on top of your knuckles and pull the pinkies back, so that when you bring your arms up into a V, the thumbs point forward and the pinky fingers face back.

  3. Step 3

Raise your arms above your head into a V shape. The angle of the V must be 45 degrees, any narrower and the move resembles the Touchdown move, and any wider looks sloppy.

  4. Step 4

Straighten your arms tightly and lock them in place just to the point where you can see them in your peripheral vision. Not too far forward, but not too far back.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice in front of a mirror and pay attention to your fists and the placement of your V in relation to your head and shoulders.
  • When you make your fist, you should see a "doughnut hole" on the thumb side. This is also sometimes called a "swirly."
