How to Note RBIs on a Scorecard

The run batted in, or RBI, is one of the most important statistics in baseball. You can't win a game unless you score runs, and hitters who consistently drive in 100 runs or more per season generally rank among baseball's elite players. To review the game later, learn how to record who drove in which runs on your scorecard.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Pay attention to when a run scores during a game. Take note of who scored the run, who drove him in and how the run was scored.
Step2
Go to the at-bat box of the player that scored the run. In the lower left corner, mark down the batting order number of the player that drove him in (for example, write down "5" if the fifth-place hitter drove in the run).
Step3
Circle the number and/or fill in the completed diamond you drew in the box for the player's path around the bases. This helps you see where a run was scored during a game. You can also underline the number if the run was scored on a hit.
Step4
Go back over the scorecard after the game is over and see where the runs were scored. By looking in the bottom left corners, you can quickly tell from the numbers you wrote who drove in which runs.
Step5
Take note of how many RBIs each player had. Then mark the right number down for each player in the RBI column. There should be a column on the far right side for listing RBIs (along with columns for at-bats, runs and hits).

Tips & Warnings

  • If your scorecard is a simpler version that doesn't have the statistics columns, find your own place to write the stats down. Leave enough space in each player's name box to write down his at-bats, runs, hits and RBIs.
