People often use stained glass or windows to create a French look. They make the glass appear older by applying patina, which is a chemical that changes the color of the soldered seams on stained glass to black or copper. You must apply the patina correctly to achieve this look.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Piece of stained glass
  • Patina
  • Brush
  • Towel
  1. Step 1

Pour some patina solution into a small glass. Shake the bottle well before using it, as particles normally settle on the bottom.

  2. Step 2

Apply the patina by dipping a small brush in the solution and brushing it on the solder. Expect an instant antique, metallurgical look. It goes on quickly and protects the solder from oxidizing.

  3. Step 3

Turn the glass over and apply a protective coat of patina to the solder areas on the other side to keep them from oxidizing.

  4. Step 4

Place the glass under hot running water in the sink and brush off any excess patina. Remove any spots from the glass.

  5. Step 5

Dry the glass with a towel. Apply a coat of wax or rubbing compound for further protection from oxidation.
