You must be meticulous when you pour the second layer for a soy candle because the top of this layer is visible. Use the following tips to make sure the second layer of your candle is smooth and free of blemishes.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Touch the top of the first layer to make sure that it is ready to receive the second layer. If your finger makes a mark or indentation, let the candle cool longer. If your finger doesn't leave any marks, it's ready for the second layer.
Step2
Warm the soy wax. The soy wax is ready to pour when it has reached a temperature of between 150 and 155 degrees F.
Step3
Remove the wick placement stick. If you used something to hold the wick in place when you poured the first layer, take it off the wick before pouring the second layer.
Step4
Pour the second layer on top of the first layer. Hold the wick over to the side and slowly pour the soy wax into the candle jar. Stop pouring when the wax is about 1/4 inch from the top.
Step5
Put the wick back into the wick placement stick. Make sure the wick remains in the center of the candle and not off to the side.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tap the candle on a hard surface if the soy wax cools to a point where it is thick. Tapping the candle jar evens out the top of the soy wax.
  • Never pour the second layer if the first layer is still warm. Otherwise, the layers will blend and the candle will have air bubbles in it.
  • Don't pour the wax all the way to the top of the container. The wax will spill over the sides when the candle is burning if you pour it that high.
