Practice caution when you pour the first layer of a soy candle. If you pour it wrong, the candle will be ruined and you have to start from the beginning. Here are some steps to take to ensure that you pour the first layer of your soy candle properly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Candle jar
  • Thermometer
  1. Step 1

Place the wick in the candle jar. Make sure the wick is in the center of the jar so the completed candle burns evenly.

  2. Step 2

Add decorative touches to the candle jar. If you are adding rocks or shells to the bottom of the jar, do it before the soy wax is melted and ready to pour. Hold the wick while adding these touches so it doesn't move off center.

  3. Step 3

Bring the soy wax to the proper temperature. When your thermometer reaches between 150 and 155 degrees F, the soy wax is ready to pour into the candle jar.

  4. Step 4

Pour the wax into the jar slowly while keeping the wick over the side. Pouring too fast will create air bubbles.

  5. Step 5

Put the wick back to the center and hold it there. You can do this by holding the wick with your hands until the wax has cooled, or by using a popsicle stick or craft stick with a hole drilled in the center.

Tips & Warnings
  • Allow your wax to melt on its own. This will ensure the soy wax is smooth when your pour it into the candle jar.
  • Never leave melting wax unattended. Wax has a flash point of about 500 degrees F. If your soy wax gets close to this temperature, it will ignite.
