If you make your own candles, you can color them to create a distinctive look. This makes the candle pleasing to the eye and lets you add it to the décor of any room without creating a clash. Follow these steps to color soy candles.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Color chips, liquid dye or dye block
  • Thermometer
  1. Step 1

Check the soy for proper consistency. It should be a smooth liquid, without any large chunks of wax floating around. The ideal temperature for the wax is around 165 degrees F.

  2. Step 2

Add some color chips, liquid dye or a dye block to the soy wax. If you use color chips or a dye block, you can break them up a bit with your fingers before adding them so that they will melt faster.

  3. Step 3

Return the container to the double broiler. Stir the wax until the dye is evenly distributed. If you are using chips or dye block, make sure it has melted as well.

  4. Step 4

Observe the color to check if it is what you want. If the color is not as bright as you want it, add some more dye. If you want the color richer and deeper, add a small amount of black dye.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you see specks of color at the bottom of your finished candle, add the color when the wax is at a slightly higher temperature next time.
  • Don't keep your wax at a liquid state above 150 degrees for very long, as this could burn and yellow the wax.
