Sock monkey puppets are vintage toys that have recently risen in popularity thanks to designers like Paul Frank. Sock puppets are educational crafts to make with kids, as they can learn important skills like cutting, measuring and hand sewing. Follow these easy instructions on how to flip the arms for your sock monkey puppet.

Things You'll Need:

  • Stuffing
  • Crochet hook
  • Straight pins
  • Needle
  • Thread
  1. Step 1

Turn the arms right side out after you finish sewing them. Do this the same way you would flip a sock right side out. Work slowly so that you don't pull or rip the stitches in the arms.

  2. Step 2

Stuff the arms after you turn them right side out. Start with a small amount of stuffing. Use a crochet hook or the handle of a wooden spoon to work the stuffing all the way down into the hand. Don't poke whatever instrument you use through the sock material.

  3. Step 3

Roll the arms between your hands after you stuff them to work out any lumps in the stuffing and make the arms softer.

  4. Step 4

Place the arms where you want them on your sock monkey puppet. Placing them near the head gives the sock monkey puppet a more comical appearance, whereas placing them lower makes your puppet appear lankier. Insert a couple of straight pins into the areas where you want the arms.

  5. Step 5

Attach the arms to your sock monkey puppet using a whipstitch. You are now ready to attach the puppet's tail directly above its rump. Use a whipstitch when you attach the tail as well.
