Making sock puppets is a fun and educational craft for grownups and kids alike. Children learn important skills, such as cutting, measuring and sewing, and they end up with a new toy. Follow these instructions and learn how to attach the nose to your sock monkey puppet.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 socks
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins
  • Needle
  • Thread
  1. Step 1

Cut the sock monkey puppet's nose out of the heel of a sock. Remove the entire heel portion.

  2. Step 2

Fold under and pin about 1/8 inch of the heel material around the edges. This gives your sock puppet's nose a neater appearance.

  3. Step 3

Pick a spot on your puppet to position the snout and place a pin or two in that area. Leave room for the eyes.

  4. Step 4

Reach into the opening between the sock monkey puppet's legs. This keeps you from sewing the nose to both layers of sock material.

  5. Step 5

Lay the snout up against the face so that the wrong side of the snout faces you. Stitch along the bottom edge of the heel (the top of the monkey's nose). Use a whip stitch to attach the snout to the puppet's face.

  6. Step 6

Flip the nose back into its correct position, with the right side of the sock monkey puppet's nose facing you. Sew the bottom portion of the nose to the face using a whip stitch, but leave a small opening so you can stuff the nose.
