You can create customized kitchen placemats by adding photographs to them. Print the photograph on special fabric paper and use that to sew placemats. Or, you can adhere the photos to craft paper and laminate the finished product.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Paper
  • Photographs
  • Scissors
  • Embellishments
  • Acid-free adhesive
  • Self-laminating sheets

Fabric Kitchen Placemats

Step1
Print your photograph out on fabric paper, which you can find at fabric and craft stores.
Step2
Remove the paper backing to reveal the photograph printed directly on the fabric.
Step3
Lay out your fabric however you like, then pin your design down.
Step4
Stitch your kitchen placemat together. For an especially crafty touch, you can use quilting techniques.

Paper Kitchen Placemats

Step1
Choose a piece of paper large enough to be a kitchen placemat.
Step2
Position the photo you want to use on the paper.
Step3
Add embellishments such as ribbons, journaling or charms to your design.
Step4
Secure everything in place using a quality, acid-free adhesive.
Step5
Use self-laminating sheets to cover your custom kitchen placemats and protect them against stains and crumbs.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can't find self-laminating sheets, you can take your kitchen placemats to a copy center for lamination.
