How to Use a Nebulizer Mask

Nebulizer face masks allow a patient to inhale medication that's been turned into a fine mist. Usually, this medicine reduces swelling in the bronchial tubes and makes it easier to breathe. You can customize the fit of a nebulizer face mask by bending the metal bar across the nose and adjusting the elastic band.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Place the mask on your face with the elastic band going around the back of your head.
Step2
Pull the ends of the elastic bands on either side of the mask make the mask looser or tighter. The mask should fit snugly in place without being painful.
Step3
Pinch the metal band that goes across the nose piece of the mask until it fits.
Step4
Face forward and keep your chin level with the floor during the nebulizer treatment. Turning your head or dropping your head creates gaps in the fit of the mask, which allows the medication to escape before you can inhale it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Let children decorate the exterior of their nebulizer face mask with permanent marker to personalize it
  • Clean the mask and the nebulizer machine thoroughly after every treatment.
  • Replace the mask if the metal nose band breaks or if the mask cracks or breaks.
