Chicken in a pot, or poule au pot, is a classic French chicken dish. This dish is an easy to make at home any night of the week. However, the dramatic and fancy presentation of chicken in a pot makes this a great entree for fancy gatherings. Follow these steps to serve and present chicken in a pot.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Steam 2 red new potatoes for each person and place them together at the rear of a dinner plate. Place a piece of the chicken on top of the potatoes. The potatoes support the chicken and make it appear as if the chicken is standing up on the plate.

  2. Step 2

Spoon some of the chicken gravy from the pot onto the plate underneath and around the chicken and the potatoes.

  3. Step 3

Accompany the chicken in a pot with a vegetable of your choosing or a garden salad.

  4. Step 4

Add a slice of crusty French bread to complete the dish. Diners can use the crusty French bread to sop up any extra gravy from the chicken in a pot.

Tips & Warnings
  • For an alternative, consider pouring the gravy into a gravy boat and passing it around at the dining table instead of putting gravy on each individual dinner plate.
  • Garnish the chicken in a pot with some freshly chopped parsley.
  • Squeeze a small amount of fresh lemon juice over the chicken before serving for extra flavor.
  • Don't pour the gravy over the top of the chicken on the serving plate. Give your guests the choice of eating the chicken without the gravy.
