It's OK if your first layer of tiramisu is a little messy, but when you make the second layer of this classic Italian dessert, you need to take your time and do it neatly so it looks nice. Making the second layer of tiramisu is just like making the first layer. Here is how you do it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ladyfingers
  • Espresso/liqueur
  • Sweetened mascarpone cheese mixture
  1. Step 1

Make sure you have enough sweetened mascarpone cheese. If it looks like you used too much on the first layer, it's a good idea to make a little more of the mixture to be sure you have enough to cover the entire second layer.

  2. Step 2

Dip the Ladyfingers. Take your Ladyfingers and quickly dip each side in the same Espresso/liqueur mixture you used for the first layer.

  3. Step 3

Place the dipped Ladyfingers on top of the first layer. Lay the Ladyfingers down in the same direction as you did for the first layer. Continue laying them down until the second layer is complete.

  4. Step 4

Cover the Ladyfingers with the sweetened mascarpone cheese mixture. Spread the mixture evenly over the top, being sure to cover all of the Ladyfingers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Measure out the sweetened mascarpone cheese mixture before you start layering. Simply separating the mixture into equal halves before you begin layering ensures you will have enough of the mixture for both layers.
  • Dusting the top of the second layer of tiramisu with a little bit of cocoa powder makes for a nice presentation.
  • Avoid rushing the second layer. If you spread the second layer too quickly, the Ladyfingers will crumble and you'll end up with bits and pieces of Ladyfingers in your final layer of the sweetened mascarpone cheese mixture.
