There is nothing like the smell of fresh, homemade cookies wafting through the kitchen. But after you've made them, you have to store them--unless, of course, your family completely indulges and polishes them off in one sitting. Here are some tips on how to store organic oatmeal cookies so that they stay as fresh as the day they were baked.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Resealable
  • sandwich-sized bags
  • Freezer
  1. Step 1

Allow the cookies to cool before you store them. This is a general rule for all foods. You don't want to take a hot item and stick it right in the fridge or freezer. You can cause condensation buildup that can lead to spoiling of the food or mold. Let the organic oatmeal cookies sit out on the counter for a couple of hours to cool. If you are worried about bugs, cover them with wax paper.

  2. Step 2

Fill the plastic bags with 2 to 4 cookies, depending in the size of each cookie you made.

  3. Step 3

Slide your fingers across the top of the bag to seal the lock. Make sure you stop sealing right at the very end and leave a little opening.

  4. Step 4

Squeeze any additional air out of the bag. The more air you get out of the bag, the longer the cookies will stay fresh in the freezer. It's the additional air in the package that makes them go stale.

  5. Step 5

Put the organic oatmeal cookies in the freezer. Placing them on the door is usually a good idea, because then they won't run the risk of having something plopped on top of them. You can safely store your organic oatmeal cookies for about 3 months.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also substitute plastic containers for plastic bags. Just be careful opening the containers as they tend to become brittle while in the freezer.
  • Cookies do not have a lot of moisture. Therefore, the thawing time is relatively quick. Leaving them on the counter an hour before you wish to serve them is plenty.
