Cheese bread is a super complement to many meals, or can be served as an appetizer or a delicious snack. It tastes best fresh out of the oven, with the cheese hot and gooey. With cheese bread, the secret to the flavor lies in the toppings, which include not only cheese, but a tangy butter sauce with onions and garlic.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • French bread
  • Aluminum foil
  • Grated cheese
  • Melted butter with garlic and onions
  • Serrated knife
  • Pastry brush
  1. Step 1

Use a sharp, serrated knife to slice the bread in half lengthwise. Then turn the bread and cut each piece in half, making four pieces of bread.

  2. Step 2

Place the four pieces of bread cut side up on a large piece of aluminum foil.

  3. Step 3

Brush a coating of melted butter with onions and garlic on the cut side of the bread with a pastry brush. Be sure to cover the entire surface of the bread, extending to the edges.

  4. Step 4

Divide the grated cheddar cheese into fourths, and spread it lightly over the melted butter mixture.

Tips & Warnings
  • Vary the types of cheese on the cheese bread according to your tastes. Try sharp cheddar, cheddar mixed with mozzarella, Monterey jack, or even freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Garnish the cheese bread with a few chopped green onions or scallions, or a bit of fresh or dried parsley.
  • Give the cheese bread a big of zing by spreading a very small amount of mayonnaise on the bread before you brush on the butter, garlic and onion mixture.
