Jalapeño peppers are used in a lot of recipes, including the classic jalapeño poppers. Jalapeño peppers are also added to burrito and enchilada mixtures and they're used to make hot salsas. They are an essential element in Mexican cooking. Before you use the jalapeños, though, you have to wash and cut them. Here are some steps on how to cut jalapeño peppers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Several jalapeños
  • A sharp knife
  • A clean cutting board
  1. Step 1

Wash the peppers in warm water. Make sure they are clean of all dust and dirt. Let them air dry.

  2. Step 2

Cut the stem end off of each individual jalapeño. On a cutting board, cut it about 1 inch down from the top of the pepper and dispose of the tops.

  3. Step 3

Slice each jalapeño in half long ways. Clean out all of the seeds and dispose of them. If you are making jalapeño poppers, only cut a slit into the side of the jalapeño and clean out the seeds.

  4. Step 4

Lay each slice of pepper side by side and cut them into small pieces all at once using a large sharp knife.

  5. Step 5

Dice the small pieces of jalapeño peppers into even smaller pieces. When you are finished dicing the peppers, place them in a bowl until you are ready to use them.

  6. Step 6

Clean and wash the cutting board and knife well after using them to cut jalapeños.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cut the jalapeño into rings to use on nachos or as decorations on other plates.
  • Do not rub your eyes while you are cutting jalapeño peppers. It will really burn if you get the juice or a seed in your eye.
