If you're looking for a soft and elegant look that doesn't take much time and effort, a loose braid may be exactly what you need. It's very simple to do a loose braid, even by yourself, and the result will be a versatile look that can even be turned into an easy, romantic updo.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Brush
  • Comb
  • Small, coated rubber bands
  • Bobby pins
  • Hand mirror
  1. Step 1

Grab three random sections of hair. The sections don't need to be adjacent to one another, and some hair in between the sections can even be left out.

  2. Step 2

Braid the three strands loosely, using very little tension. Grab some additional hair and incorporate them into the braid as you go. Fasten the end of the braid with a small, coated rubber band.

  3. Step 3

Use the handheld mirror to check the placement and appearance of the loose braid.

  4. Step 4

Add another braid if you like, or cover the entire head with loose braids. Allow the hair around the face to fall naturally, or pull it back and pin it into a braid with a bobby pin.

  5. Step 5

Arrange the loose braids any way you like, experimenting until you're satisfied with the look. You can criss cross them and secure them with bobby pins, or you can push them up into a loose updo.

Tips & Warnings
  • Small hair bands are available in colors that will match hair, or you can even purchase clear bands. Hair bands that blend with your hair are very helpful for loose braids, and contribute to the natural appearance.
