Step 1
Look at your dryer and see what type of settings it offers. A regular or heavy setting is the hottest cycle of your dryer. Choose this setting to dry your jeans if the care instructions indicate you need to use a hot, regular or heavy dry cycle. Use this cycle in combination with a hot wash cycle if you want to shrink new jeans.
-
Step 2
Select the permanent press cycle if your care instructions recommend a warm dryer setting. Choose an air dry, fluff or delicate setting if you have concerns about whether your jeans are preshrunk. These settings use little to no heat and take a long time to dry jeans.
-
Step 3
Use dryers at your local laundromat only if you intend to dry your jeans in a very hot dryer. Laundromat dryers are usually set to a very hot heat and often don't offer multiple settings.

Step 4
Hang dry designer jeans or tight-fitting jeans. Expect the texture of your jeans to change after the first cleaning cycle. Shrinking may occur if the jeans are not preshrunk. Choose the air dry or fluff cycle of your dryer to soften the jeans after hang drying.
