Step 1
Wash your new jeans separately from your other clothes. New jeans, pairs that are dark wash, can bleed a little bit due to the dark dye in them. Prevent ruining other clothes in your laundry by washing the jeans on cold water in their own load.
-
Step 2
Turn your jeans inside out when you wash them. You can help keep your jeans from fading in the dryer if you protect the outside of the jeans from the high heat on your dryer.
-
Step 3
Set the washer and dryer on regular settings when you launder new jeans. Permanent press cycles are made for more delicate fabrics and if you don't use a regular setting on the dryer, it normally won't be hot enough to dry jeans in one cycle.
-
Step 4
Hang your jeans to dry. If you don't want to risk your jeans fading or shrinking, hang them on a drying rack. Because denim is a heavy and stiff fabric, they can become crisp when they're hang dried. To prevent this, add fabric softener to your wash cycle, or run the jeans in the dryer for 10 minutes to soften them up before removing them.
-
Step 5
Fold your jeans as soon as they're dry. If you allow your jeans to sit in the dryer for a long period of time they can wrinkle; folding them while they're still warm from the dryer will help keep them soft and wrinkle-free. To conserve energy and to prevent excessive wear on your jeans, check the dryer to see if they're dry before cycle is complete and remove them at that time.
