Whether heading out for a night on the town, planning for a holiday party or simply looking for a way to spice up your everyday makeup, metallic makeup can really add flair to your look. Metallic makeup, like any type of beauty product, must be applied with care and skill. A few tips can teach you how to prepare your skin for foundation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mild soap
  • Facial toner
  • Cotton balls
  • Foundation primer
  • Makeup sponge
  1. Step 1

Wash your face with warm water and a mild soap before applying your makeup. Once your face is clean, place a bit of facial toner on a cotton ball and apply to your skin in a dabbing motion. Not only will the toner help to pick up any residues and oils on your skin, it will also help to close your pores.

  2. Step 2

Choose a foundation primer that suits your complexion and skin type. You do not need to purchase a special product just for metallic makeup, so use your old favorite if you like, but as a general rule, it is best to use the same brand of primer as your foundation. Foundation primer helps to smooth the look of wrinkles, soak up any oil and allow your foundation to go on smoothly and easily.

  3. Step 3

Apply a small amount of primer at a time, since a little goes a long way. It is best to use a makeup sponge, since it spreads the foundation primer more evenly; however, you can use clean fingers if necessary. Begin applying the primer in dabbing motions, and once evenly applied to your skin, massage with gentle, circular motions.

  4. Step 4

Cover your entire face, including the eyelids, eyebrows, neck and area near the ears. Foundation primer generally has little or no color, but it can change the smooth appearance of your foundation if not applied cleanly. Once your foundation primer is ready, you can begin the base for your metallic makeup.
