How to Use the Hair Tool in Poser Software

Poser is a 3-D figure design and animation software program. Artists can create realistic images by growing dynamic hair. Dynamic clothing and hair are the most processor-intensive Poser features. The Hair Style tool is a powerful option in the Hair Room. Artists can easily create ponytails, parts and curls with Poser software.

Instructions

1. Prepare a character for the Hair Room. Grow at least three hair groups from the skull cap. Choose "Styling Hair" in the Styling Controls section. Choosing a hair group activates the Hair Style tool. The tool has seven icons: Select Hairs, Translate Hairs, Curl Hairs, Scale Hairs, Twist Hairs, Translate Hairs In-Out (moves the hair closer or farther) and De-select Hair. The Tool also has three dials: Constrain Length, Falloff and Lengthen.

2. Choose "Select Hairs," and then click-and-drag to pick a section of the hair group. You can apply several styling features within one hair group with the Hair Style tool.

3. Pick "Curl Hairs" to style larger hair groups. The Curl Hairs icon rotates the hair guides in all three dimensions. Dragging the selected hairs in a perpendicular direction rotates the hair up and down. Drag the icon parallel to rotate the hair in and out.

4. Select "Twist Hairs" for smaller groups. This icon is best for creating bangs or unruly hairs. Twist Hairs rotates a hair group around its axis. Use the Lengthen dial to extend the hair group further over the eyes. Experiment with the tools to create individual's hairstyles.

5. Practice creating different hairstyles with the Hair Style tool. Find hairstyles in magazines and create them in Poser.

Tips & Warnings

• Using the Curl Hairs icon normally shortens a hair group. Use the Constrain Length dial to prevent this.
