A drafting table is a piece of art studio furniture that may be referred to by other terms, such as drawing table or artist's table. Drafting tables are typically a costly item. There are different ways an artist may set up and protect their table depending on the art technique and materials.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase a drafting table from an art supply store or consider purchasing second hand as a more economical option. Choose from a variety of styles such as full wood surface, framed drafting tables, and vinyl or fiberglass surface drafting table toppers.

  2. Step 2

Select a well-lit area to place the drafting table. Allow room to either stand or pull up a chair or artist's stool. Test that there is also enough room to make the range of motions necessary to complete a variety of work tasks at the drafting table.

  3. Step 3

Set the height and angle at which the artist prefers to work. Adjust settings on the table to accommodate for good posture. A 15- to 20-degree upward angle is comfortable for most.

  4. Step 4

Place art supplies around the outskirts of the drafting table or drafting table topper.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to select a chair or artist stool that is comfortable, especially if you work long hours.
