Step 1
Start adding more partner cumbia dance step turns by beginning with the basic cumbia steps. Step back with your right foot, pivoting on your left foot as you do, so you place it a little to the side and behind your left foot. Step in place with your left foot, then step forward with your right foot as you step back with your left foot and step in place with your right. Your partner starts with her left foot instead of her right, moving in a mirror image to you.
-
Step 2
Begin adding more cumbia dance step turns by open breaking and stepping back with your left foot, while extending your left hand.
-
Step 3
Step forward with your right foot as your partner steps forward with her left foot. Lift up your left hand as you move straight forward and turn to the left. As you turn to the left, your partner will turn back to her left and step back beneath your arm with her left leg. Lower your arm after you complete the turn while you are adding more partner cumbia dance step turns.
-
Step 4
Go back with your right foot as your partner steps back with her left foot. Extend your arm as you step back. Step in place with your left foot as your partner steps in place with her right foot. Step forward with your left foot as your partner steps forward with her right.
-
Step 5
Bring her hand to your waist as you pass her. She will turn to the left as you turn around to the left and step back with your left foot. As you turn, momentarily let go of her hand and take it again when you've turned around and are facing each other again.

Step 6
Resume the basic cumbia steps before doing more turns. Add more cumbia dance steps turns takes some practice. Break down the turns step by step with your partner as you work on them together until you find that you both are able to do them in time with the music.
