Step 1
Separate your yoga routine into genres of poses. For instance, you might begin with sun salutations which easily flow into lunges which in turn flow into warrior poses. Warrior poses can be combined with triangle poses and to keep things flowing, try forward bends after your triangle poses. From forward bends, you can come back to standing and practice your balancing poses which calms and centers the mind and prepares you for your floor work.

Step 2
Perform your downward facing floor poses before rolling to your back, as the positions performed on your back are the natural way to end your routine. Additionally, you can easily transition into forward poses from standing by performing sun salutation with ends with downward dog. From downward dog, you can transition to a high push up and slowly lower yourself to the mat. You are now ready for cobra, bow and other face-down poses.

Step 3
Use downward dog as a natural transition pose to keep your routine flowing. Downward dog, in which your hands and feet are planted on the ground while your buttocks are lifted towards the ceiling, can be easily performed after forward bends and poses performed on your stomach or your knees. From downward dog you can drop your knees and begin your floor routine or backward bends, step a foot forward for a warrior series, lunges or triangle poses or even jump both feet forward for your standing poses.

Step 4
Enter into child's pose at any time during your routine to give yourself a break. Like downward facing dog, the position of child's pose is easy to enter and exit from virtually any pose, allowing you to rest without disturbing the flow of your yoga session.
