How to Do a Finger Flip in Skateboarding

Do the Finger Flip trick on your skateboard and impress all your skating friends on the street. While skateboarders make it look easy, it really is more difficult than it looks. A good trick for freestyle skating, you'll make the board flip in the air while it's flying beneath you in the air.

    Instructions

      • 1

Practice Finger Flips in a stationary position to get comfortable with the timing for the leap and flip of the board. Practicing on carpet helps make the board stable.

      • 2

Get the board up to a comfortable speed once you are ready to try this trick while rolling. Place your back foot on the tail of the board and the other in the board's center, leaning more toward the tail. Get up on the balls of your feet.

      • 3

Reach over and grab the nose of your board with one hand at the same moment. Make sure your thumb is on top.

      • 4

Jump up at the same instant you are grabbing the board's nose. It's a little bit tricky, but with practice, you'll get the movement down. Keep your knees together and face forward for a higher jump. Make sure you don't start to flip the board while you are still on it or you will hurt your fingers. Timing is key.

      • 5

Flip the board over with your hand while you are in the air. You'll have to flip it real hard to get it to go all the way around. Tuck your knees in tight to your chest. Make sure your center of gravity stays over the board. Keep your legs tucked long enough for the board to rotate or you will land on the board while it is upside down.

Catch the board with your feet on the grip tape, land and roll smoothly.
