Purchased dog beds can be expensive. And cleaning dog hair off furniture is time consuming. So why not make a dog bed for your pooch. Even beginners can sew a dog bed in no time at all. You can make the dog bed so it matches your interior décor or you can make it from fabric with a dog motif. Any way you make it, your dog can enjoy it.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Purchase your materials. If you want to make the dog bed cover from two fabrics such as fleece and cotton you can do that. Do choose washable fabrics. For the inside of the dog bed you can recycle an old bed pillow if you wish.

  2. Step 2

Pre-wash the fabrics. If you omit this step the dog bed might shrink the first time you wash it. Then the cover would no longer fit on the pillow.

  3. Step 3

Cut the top and bottom pieces of fabric to the desired size. Leave enough for a seam allowance all the way around. Also leave a bit of room for ease.

  4. Step 4

Place the fabric pieces right side together. Pin them together.

  5. Step 5

Sew three sides of the dog bed with straight stitches. Trim the corners. Turn the dog bed right side out.

  6. Step 6

Insert the pillow into the dog bed. Turn the raw edges to the inside. Pin the opening closed.

  7. Step 7

Stitch the opening closed with the sewing machine. Be sure to backstitch on each end. If the fabric is too thick to sew with the machine you can hand sew the opening closed.
