Training a parrot takes a lot of time and patience. To effectively train a parrot, you should use some treats that the parrot really enjoys. If the parrot knows that he will be receiving one of his favorite tricks, then he will be more likely to perform the tricks.

From Quick Guide: Parrot Pals
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk to the parrot use your voice or a clicker to train the parrot to the sound. For example, say the word "good" or use the clicker one time and then give the parrot a treat. Use the same tone and type of voice each time you say the word "good." This trains the parrot to associate the word or the click with getting a treat.

  2. Step 2

Repeat Step 1 two to three times within a five minute period. Do this same exercise about three to four times a day for a week or two until the parrot can really associate the sound of the word or click with getting a treat.

  3. Step 3

Teach the parrot the tricks you want it to do. Mimic the tricks yourself. Then, when the parrot copies you on the trick, say the word "good" or click the clicker and give a treat. This step will take the longest, so you will need to have a lot of patience with this step.

  4. Step 4

Watch the parrot closely on a daily basis. Every time he does the tricks that you taught him say "good" or click the clicker and give a treat. The parrot will soon associate the treat with doing the trick.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never get frustrated with your parrot. A parrot can sense frustration and refuse to do the tricks.
