Once infants and toddlers become mobile, it's important to make your house as safe as possible. Because toddlers are fascinated by opening and closing doors, it is a good idea to install a child proof lock on your refrigerator. A refrigerator lock can be bought at minimal cost from most supermarkets as well as online from childproof safety websites.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Peel off the adhesive back from the front part of the fridge lock. Place the lock where you want it installed on your fridge ensuring that it's out of your child's reach. Press the lock piece firmly in place holding your hands over it for 30 seconds to firmly seal the adhesive.
Step2
Take the side piece of the lock and line it up at the same height as the front piece. Pull the side piece so the plastic edging that attaches the two pieces isn't loose. Press the side piece firmly down as you did in Step 1 above until the adhesive has been securely set.
Step3
Open the refrigerator by squeezing the top and bottom gray pieces together. This will detach the plastic edging and unlocking the childproof mechanism.
Step4
Lock the fridge once the door is closed by clipping the plastic edging back to the front lock piece.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once your child is old enough that the fridge being a tempting and dangerous place, you can easily remove the fridge lock. Because the lock was attached with adhesive, simply peel the locks off the front and side of the fridge. If there's any residue left on the fridge, use warm water and dish soap to clean it.
