Preparing vegetables for your baby is a way to insure you know exactly what your baby eats. In addition, it saves a considerable amount of money. Jarred baby food is sold for up to ten times what it costs to make.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Thoroughly wash fresh vegetables. Though you could technically used canned or frozen vegetables, fresh vegetables are more likely to contain all the nutrients your baby needs.
Step2
Dice the vegetables into very small pieces to speed up the cooking process.
Step3
Put a steamer into a sauce pan and cover the bottom of the pan with water.
Step4
Drop in either your fresh vegetables and cover the pan. Steam until the vegetables are tender.
Step5
Place your vegetables into your food processor or coffee grinder until the vegetables are pureed. If the vegetables are too thick or pasty, add a little of the water they were cooked in to thin them out to a proper consistency for your baby.
Step6
Allow your cooked vegetables to cool completely before you store them in an airtight container.
Step7
Freeze the extra portion in ice cube trays. Ice cubes are about as big as a jar of baby food.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't feed spinach, carrots, collared greens, beets or turnips to babies under nine months. These vegetables contain high amounts of nitrates which can be dangerous to young infants.
  • If you use a coffee grinder to make your baby's food, don't use it to grind coffee. You could end up accidentally exposing your baby to caffeine.
