Every guitar player needs to change strings from time to time. It may be because one breaks or is just getting old and doesn't sound as good. You can recycle your guitar strings or dispose of them in ways that won't hurt others or cause a mess.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Put the used guitar strings onto an older guitar. If the strings are still in usable condition and have enough length, you can use them on an older guitar that you practice with. This puts the strings to good use and you save from having to buy two sets of new strings.

  2. Step 2

Donate your used strings to needy musicians. Programs like Second Strings Project will take your old strings and distribute them to guitar players without resources to buy new ones. Some musicians collect the strings at concerts or you can mail them to designated addresses.

  3. Step 3

Make a bracelet out of your old strings. Strings make a unique bracelet for both men and women. Cut the strings to size and then solder the joint together to hold the strings in place. This could be a great side project for a little extra cash or just a personal craft.

  4. Step 4

Use the strings for an art project. Try a mixed media project or create sculptures from the strings. Balls made of strings can also be an unusual accessory in your home. Get creative and look for ways to recycle the guitar strings into something beautiful.

  5. Step 5

Wind the used guitar strings up into a bundle and put them into the new strings box to dispose of them. Using a box will keep the strings from puncturing a garbage bag and injuring someone.
