As you create folders in Google Reader to place your feeds in, there are more options to optimize the subscriptions you are viewing. Because feeds are constantly adding new stories, it is sometimes difficult to keep track of them all. However, with tags, you can mark various stories with specific keywords to come back to or filter at a later time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sign into Google Reader. This is done by typing in the email you used when signing up, along with your password. After clicking "Sign In," you come to your Google Reader home page.

  2. Step 2

Click on a folder to display its contents in the reading pane on the right hand side. You can also click on specific feeds within the folder.

  3. Step 3

Locate a story you wish to tag for later use in Google Reader.

  4. Step 4

Scroll to the bottom of that story and click on "Edit Tags" from the options available.

  5. Step 5

Notice that the folder name will already be displayed in the dialogue box that pops up. Type in the keyword that you wish to tag this story as next to the folder name tag already there. Select "Save" when you're done adding the keyword.

  6. Step 6

Observe the tag that has now been added at the bottom of the panel on the left hand side of the screen.

  7. Step 7

Continue to tag stories using this keyword or add additional tags using different keywords.
