There are probably going to be times when you are not able to connect to the Internet when it would still be nice to access your Google Reader content offline. There are ways to achieve this by using Google Gears. This Google Reader feature is relatively new, and the following steps help you learn how to read your feed content offline.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Download Google Gears to begin reading content offline. Click on "Install Google Gears." At the next screen, click on "Agree and Download." Click on "Run" when the Security Warning dialogue box appears. Click on "Run" again when asked if you want to run the software. Click on "Close" when prompted to close the window. Close and restart your web browser.

  2. Step 2

Select "Allow" when the dialogue box appears asking if you want Google Gears to be used at that website.

  3. Step 3

Log in to your Google account using your email and password. Click on "Sign in" to be redirected to your Google Reader homepage.

  4. Step 4

Notice in the top right hand corner of your Google Reader homepage there is now a upside down arrow surrounded by a green circle. Click on this to download the content so that you can view it while you are offline. It will change to an arrow facing upwards surrounded by a blue circle.

  5. Step 5

Click on this when you wish to switch from offline to online mode to read your feeds in Google Reader.
