The purpose of Google Reader is to have one location where you can subscribe to and manage feeds. Feeds allow you to maintain blogs or websites all in one place so you don't have to remember to go back to that location to see if updates have been made.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log in to your Google Reader account using your email address and password.

  2. Step 2

Locate the option "Add Subscription" in the panel on the left hand side of the Google Reader home page.

  3. Step 3

Type in the keyword or keywords of the topic you wish to search for. If you know the url of the feed you want, you can also type this here.

  4. Step 4

Click on the link of the feed you want more information on. This list of links will be in the reading pane part of the Google Reader screen. After clicking on the main link, more links will be displayed. This allows you to see what that feed offers before you choose to subscribe to it. The feeds are updated frequently.

  5. Step 5

Select "Subscribe" at the top of the reading pane to subscribe to the feed. Notice that the panel on the left hand side has been updated to include the feed you have just subscribed to. You can also subscribe directly from the main page that comes up after you do a search if you know you want that feed without getting more information on it.

  6. Step 6

Unsubscribe from a feed by clicking on "Feed Settings" in the top right hand corner of the Google Reader screen. Select "OK" when the dialogue box appears.
