Google Reader allows you to keep up to date with all of your favorite websites simply by checking your email. This makes subscribing to various feeds easy and convenient. Changing the settings is fairly easy, and the following steps give more information on how to do this.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log on to your Google Reader account and locate "Settings" in the top right hand corner of the screen.

  2. Step 2

Notice the "Settings" page starts with the "Preference" tab settings. Under this tab you can modify the language you want Google Reader to read in, the page you want to start with, and whether you want Reader to mark items read once you scroll past them.

  3. Step 3

Click on the "Subscriptions" tab to manage your subscriptions. By placing a check mark next to a subscription or multiple subscriptions, you can then click on "More Actions" to apply or remove a tag from a particular subscription. You can also rename or delete the subscription. In addition, you also have the option to "Change Folders" and place the subscription into a different folder. If you have a lot of subscriptions, Google Reader allows you to filter a search by its name, tag or URL.

  4. Step 4

Manage your tag settings by clicking on the "Tags" tab. By placing a check mark next to a subscription, you can then click on "More Actions" to change how you share that subscription to public or private. The default Google Reader settings are private, but you can change this based on your preference.

  5. Step 5

Select "Goodies" to change some extra settings. For example, if you have a Google homepage, you can add Google Reader to it. Under this tab, you can also place Reader in a bookmark or on your phone.

  6. Step 6

Locate the "Import/Export" tab to change from one feed reader to another. By browsing and locating the OPML file of the subscription you wish to add to Google Reader, you can then import in by clicking on "Upload." On the other hand, by clicking on "Export your subscriptions as an OPML file" you can add your Google Reader subscriptions to another reader.

  7. Step 7

Choose the "Friends" tab to create a Google profile, which allows you to share your subscriptions with others if you wish. Click on "Find Out How" to get more information on sharing your subscriptions.
