Although many people concentrate specifically on fertilizing their outdoor plants, you need to consider your household plants as well. A regular fertilization process ensures that your indoor plants maintain their beautiful look and health for many seasons to come.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wait a 6 month period before fertilizing your house plants. When you purchase a house plant from a garden center or nursery, the plant's soil already contains fertilizer. You won't need to apply more until 6 months later.

  2. Step 2

Purchase a fertilizer to use on the house plants. Many people rely on Miracle Gro, manufactured by Scotts. Many of the fertilizers from this line can safely fertilize household plants.

  3. Step 3

Dilute the fertilizer in water. Use the suggested measurements on the container of the fertilizer. For your house plants, you'll probably only need a small amount. Fill your watering can with water and then add a few drops of your selected fertilizer.

  4. Step 4

Water your plants as usual. You should notice an improvement in growth in the days and weeks following application.

  5. Step 5

Repeat fertilization process if necessary. Follow the recommendations on your package, but normally you'll fertilize indoor plants on a monthly basis.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't fertilize your household plants more than necessary. You'll not help it grow faster and may end up killing it. Flush the soil out if you notice signs of the plant dying.
