The Crocosmia George Davidson bulb produces a plant that blooms from late summer into fall. Crocosmia George Davidson flowers are usually a deep yellow and shaped like stars. They appear on slender, glossy stems and make excellent cut flowers. Crocosmia George Davidson can reach 2 1/2 to 3 feet in height with a fairly narrow flower spread. Hardy in zones 5 through 10, the Crocosmia George Davidson is considered an easy bulb to grow.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on an area of the garden for planting the Crocosmia George Davidson where the bulbs can get full sun throughout the day. If you are located in the hottest zones, position the bulbs for partial shade in the late afternoon.

  2. Step 2

Dig planting holes 2 to 3 inches deep and 8 to 10 inches apart.

  3. Step 3

Place one Crocosmia George Davidson bulb in each hole, pointy end up.

  4. Step 4

Soak your newly planted Crocosmia George Davidson thoroughly and keep the planting bed watered throughout the growing season.

  5. Step 5

Mulch heavily for wintering in the ground in zones north of zone 5, or dig them out of the soil and store them in a cool, dry place after allowing the bulbs to air dry.

  6. Step 6

Refrain from cutting the leaves back until they are completely yellow if you are in the warmer zones where the Crocosmia George Davidson bulbs are left to winter in the ground. The leaves collect energy from the sun that the bulb uses to produce next season's blooms.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Crocosmia George Davidson bulb is considered the best crocosmia for size and number of flowers.
  • Don't cut the foliage back on the Crocosmia George Davidson after it finishes flowering, until the foliage turns yellow. Cutting the foliage back too soon prevents the bulb from flowering the next season.
