For many people, the chore of washing windows is one they would rather skip. That makes window washing a great way to make money. In addition to the proper supplies and equipment, you need to be aware of basic window washing etiquette before you go in to someone's home. Follow these tips to provide your customers with service they won't forget.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Arrive on time and have all the necessary equipment. Time is valuable so don't make your customers wait. Showing up to do a job and not having all the necessary equipment is unprofessional and a waste of everyone's time.

  2. Step 2

Look professional. A uniform is not necessary but a T-shirt with your business logo is a good idea.

  3. Step 3

Discuss the job with your customer. Find out exactly which windows they want cleaned. Ask if there are any sleeping people in the house or any rooms that they don't want you in. Provide them with an idea of how long the job will take and let them know what order you will do each room.

  4. Step 4

Remove your shoes or slip on shoe covers before walking in to the customer's home. You don't want to track mud or other debris in to their house.

  5. Step 5

Keep your tools and equipment with you. Don't leave your stuff scattered all over your customer's home. This is especially important if they have young children in the house. Keeping your equipment with you will prevent accidents and ensure that you don't forget your tools when you leave.

  6. Step 6

Use towels under your water bucket and under the window you are cleaning to catch dripping water. Use them to quickly soak up spills.

  7. Step 7

Save cell phone conversations and text messaging for when you are finished working. It is disrespectful to talk on your phone while working in someone's home. If you must take a call, be brief.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are using a ladder in someone's home, make sure you are careful when carrying it through the house. Also, make sure it is clean to avoid leaving marks on walls and floors.
