The key to having streak free windows is using the correct supplies to wash them. In addition to a squeegee, soap and rags, you will also need several quality sponges. Window washing sponges come in various sizes; you'll them for several window-washing steps, including applying window cleaning solution onto the window. Here's how to select sponges for window washing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have at least 2 sponges when cleaning windows. Use a small sponge for the small windows and have a larger one for your bigger windows.

  2. Step 2

Use a natural sponge to clean windows. Natural sponges come from the sea and don't have any chemicals in them. They are soft and highly absorbent, which makes them perfect for window washing. Natural sponges wipe away dirt more easily due to their rough texture and they also leave fewer streaks.

  3. Step 3

Consider a synthetic sponge if you are on a tight budget. They are cheaper to produce than natural sponges, so they cost less. In addition, synthetic sponges last longer than natural sponges.

  4. Step 4

Select a pole mounted sponge versus a hand-held sponge unless the windows you are cleaning are very small. The pole-mounted sponges provide better coverage and create less mess than hand-held sponges. They also help you reach taller windows.

  5. Step 5

Choose a sponge with a swivel handle to get to those hard to reach spots. The swivel allows you to turn your sponge when you get to the edge or corner of the window.

  6. Step 6

Shop online at websites such as Detroit Sponge for your window washing supplies. See Resources section for link.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid using abrasive sponges on windows, as they will scratch the windows.
