Step 1
Choose a coordinating fabric for the back of the pillow. It can be a solid color or a patterned fabric. For more versatility mix the fabric types. If the front of your pillow is a cotton fabric, then consider using satin or silk on the back. This gives the pillow dimension and personality.
-
Step 2
Lay the front of the pillow upside down over the fabric for the pillow back. Line up the corners and cut out the back using sharp scissors made specifically for cutting fabric. Avoid snags in the fabric by cutting with the middle of the scissors and preventing the fabric from slipping to the back of the blades. Don't pull the fabric too tight while cutting, as this will result in an uneven edge.

Step 3
Pin the front and back of the pillow together along the seams using straight pins. Remember to keep the patterns facing one another. When you sew them together you will be seeing the inside seams of the fabric pieces. Once you have finished sewing the seams together you will then pull the pillow right side in to reveal the pillow designs and hide the seams.
