It's easy to grow germinating oak acorns. Oak acorns are usually germinated in a shallow pot of damp soil until they sprout. After about 3 weeks you should have a seedling that's ready for transplanting.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Germinate the oak acorns until they have about 3 inches of growth above ground. The germinating acorns will have about 6 inches of tap root at this time. When the acorns reach this size it is time to re-pot.

  2. Step 2

Turn the pot on its side with one hand while slipping the fingers of the free hand around the edges of the pot to support the fragile plant.

  3. Step 3

Move the potted plant so that the stalk is between the fingers and turn over the pot. The potting soil should slip out through the fingers and the roots begin to loosen.

  4. Step 4

Pull gently on the stalk while tapping on the bottom of the pot. The goal is to remove the germinated oak acorn while minimizing the impact to the root structure. Damaged roots can be stimulated to regrow, but an undamaged root structure is the most viable.

  5. Step 5

Place the germinated plant into a 5 gallon or larger pot. A pot of this size will give the germinated acorn lots of growing space as it grows into a sapling and can be transplanted into the ground.
