When you've finished enjoying the candy in that heart-shaped Valentine's day candy box, recycle it and create a personalized gift box. The gift box is perfect for small gifts, or can be used for mementos, trinkets, photos or even more candy.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Valentine's Day candy box
  • Valentine's gift wrap or used Valentine's Day gift bags, cut open to be flat
  • White craft glue or hot glue gun
  • Black fine tip marker
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  1. Step 1

Lay the wrapping paper or gift bag flat, with the white side up.

  2. Step 2

Lay the bottom of the Valentine's candy box on the paper, and trace around it with the black fine tip marker. Repeat with the top of the candy box, so you have two heart shapes.

  3. Step 3

Cut out the heart shapes, but add about an inch beyond the black line all around the shape.

  4. Step 4

Use the scissors to make perpendicular snips all around the edges of the heart shapes, snipping about every 1 1/2 inch, and cutting from the edge of the paper just to the black line. This will enable the heart shapes to later be folded along the black line. Be sure not to cut into the black line.

  5. Step 5

Make a band about 1 inch wide from the wrapping paper. This will look neater and if you make the band wider, and then fold it down to about an inch. Make it long enough to wrap around the sides of the candy box, and set it aside for now.

  6. Step 6

Adhere one of the heart shapes to the candy box top with glue, using the black line as a guide. Crease the edges of the paper up and around the edge of the candy box, and glue the edges down neatly. Repeat with the bottom of the candy box.

  7. Step 7

Glue the band around the sides of the candy box top to finish it neatly, and to hide the edges of the paper. Allow the glue to dry completely before using the Valentine's gift box.
