Things You'll Need:
- Women's pantyhose or nylon
- Slotted spoon
- Strainer
- Egg carton
-
Step 1
Wrap the eggs securely in women's pantyhose or nylon. This will keep the eggs protected when they're moving in the boiling water so they don't crack if they bump into each other. Also, if you've placed any designs on the eggs it will keep the design from moving or smudging.
-
Step 2
Place the eggs in the dye solution and bring the water to a gentle boil. Be careful not to heat the water too quickly because this could cause the eggs to crack. Allowing the water to come to a full boil can cause the eggs to bounce around too much and risk either cracking or the designs moving on the eggs.
-
Step 3
Keep the eggs covered in the dye. Gently move them around with a slotted spoon so all eggs stay fully covered in the solution during the boiling time. Move some of the onion skin on top of the eggs to help keep them covered and allow the dye to soak in.
-
Step 4
Turn the heat down to a low simmer when the dye becomes hot enough to come to a full boil. To cook the eggs appropriately, allow the eggs to simmer on a low heat for 30 minutes.
-
Step 5
Drain the eggs in a strainer and rinse with cold water. After the eggs have cooled, carefully cut the nylon and remove the eggs. Place the eggs in an empty egg carton to finish drying.
